My name is Greg Hilbrich and I welcome you to the Columbia Shorts Department, an information-heavy site dedicated to the vintage theatrical short-subjects of Columbia Pictures.
As far as theatrical shorts go, Columbia outlasted all of the major studios and by doing so, left behind a wealth of material starring both the popular (Mickey Mouse, The Three Stooges) and the long-forgotten (Scrappy, Laughing With Medbury)...as well as hundreds and hundreds of other titles and series that came and went that are just waiting to be rediscovered throughout the pages of this site.
The massive collection of titles are compiled into two main areas of the site: TWO-REEL COMEDIES and SELECTED SHORT SUBJECTS. Scroll over either of these to reveal a convenient drop-down menu where you'll discover breakdowns and appraisals of each series including a synopsis of each title (when available), production information, original release (and reissue) dates and other bits of fascinating trivia. In addition to that, you'll find a historical overview of Columbia's two-reel comedy unit, a look at the colorful characters in front of (and behind) the cameras and a ton of rare photos, lobby cards, one-sheets and other bits of memorabilia associated with Columbia's Shorts Department.
